After 6 long months away from family and I return to this welcome from the kids.
Some of the biggest changes that I noticed on arrival was that the kids have blended very well and are as happy as I can expect of them. They have shot up in height and are now hovering above my chest. Their English has very much Indiani'sed and they really look forward to school everyday.
They now speak to grand parents in Malayalam, play cricket and dance and sing to Indian music. Visits to the neighborhood library is very much revered although it is nowhere close to the scales that we have in the US.
Nandita has taken up Barath natyam out of her own interest and this time she seems to be enjoying it as well. She has picked Kannada as her second language for the 5th standard as she concluded that Sanskrit was not going to help her much because it is rarely spoken. Kids now whip out sentences in both Hindi and Malayalam and just their presence show in the mental and physical well being of the grand parents.
The end of the transition is her and the thought that that this was a wise decision is slowly setting in.
