St. Louis Indian Dance Festival - 2010

This is an entry that took a long time to formulate. Initially I was technically challenged and then I just got busy with other things and it remained unpublished.

For about a year now Neetu has been going to a dance class learning Kathak. Her dance dynamics is not the best and as parents we wanted to give her the exposure just in case she had a hidden talent that did not get uncovered due to our fault. We did finally conclude that Kathak dance won't be one of her talents as she grows up and she no longer attends the class.

Her dance teacher was the epitome of being undisciplined. Classes scheduled to start at 7 almost always only started only after 7:15 and many times even by 7:30. With that in mind parents slowly began to drop of the kids later.

When the dance festival was scheduled practice for the dance started very late and having less time only meant the pressures added for both the organizer and the parents. With 2 to 3 practices scheduled every week and the timeliness of the instructor’s arrival unpredictable parents started to arrive close to an hour late, on many occasions only to find that nothing much was missed.

The students practiced a sequel of the film Fanna to perform at the festival. It was a 2 hour program that contained drama and dances. Veena also played and danced on various occasions. It was scheduled to be the last program of a 3 day festival at Clayton High School. We sold tickets for the organizers and it was a separate ticket for each of the days. The first 2 days contained amazing dances. I was impressed with the talent that the various Indian dance troupes across the United States had. Most of our friends decided to come on Day 3 not realizing that the festival peaked on Day 2.

Here is a video of one of Neetu's dance from that festival, it is not the best of videos but the only one that I have.
